The fine print, in plain words.
How booking, rescheduling and delivery work. Your signed contract is the agreement; this page explains it simply. Last updated September 2026.
Reserving your date
Your date is reserved once the contract is signed and the retainer is paid: 30% for weddings, 50% for sessions, baptisms and family events. The retainer is non-refundable, because it holds a date I turn other families away for. Until both are done, the date is still open to others.
Paying the balance
The rest is due by the date written in your contract. Your proposal and contract list the ways you can pay.
Rescheduling and cancelling
Plans change. You can move your date once, with the notice your contract asks for, and your retainer moves with you to a new date we agree on.
If you cancel, the retainer is kept.
If I can’t be there
If illness, injury or an emergency keeps me away, I’ll do my best to arrange a qualified photographer in my place. If something outside anyone’s control happens, like severe weather or a public emergency, we’ll work together to find a new date. If neither is possible, I refund what you’ve paid.
On the day
Need more time? Extra coverage is billed at the hourly rate in your contract, in half-hour steps, and only if you say yes on the day.
For coverage longer than five hours, please plan a meal for me. Travel outside the DMV is agreed in advance and written into your proposal.
Delivery
Your edited images arrive in a private online gallery. Each collection lists its delivery time. Those times are my honest estimate, and if anything will take longer, I’ll tell you as soon as I know.
If your collection includes sneak peeks, you’ll see a few favorites within 72 hours.
The gallery stays online for the time your contract states, so please download your photos while it’s up. Unedited and rejected images aren’t delivered.
Using your photos
Print them, frame them, post them, send them to family: your photos are yours to enjoy and share for personal use. I keep the copyright, and I may show some in my portfolio and on social media. If you’d rather I didn’t, tell me in writing; your contract says by when.
Please make sure everyone in your photos is happy to be photographed, including children, since you give that permission for them.
